Transshipment
Not every port pair is served by a single sailing. Where a shipment is transshipped — moved from one vessel to another at an intermediate port — the NovaGate bill of lading records it, and so does our tracking.
What it covers
The essentials, as they appear on your B/L.
Recorded on the B/L
The “Trans Shipment” field of the NovaGate bill of lading shows where cargo changes vessel.
Visible in tracking
When our team records a transshipment port, it appears as its own stop on the tracking route for your shipment.
Same terms throughout
The carriage terms printed on the B/L continue to apply to the whole ocean carriage, including the transshipment.
How it runs
Step by step.
The fields involved on the NovaGate bill of lading:
Plan the routing
Tell us the port of loading and the port of discharge. We confirm whether the routing involves transshipment.
First vessel
Cargo is loaded at the port of loading and sails to the transshipment port.
Transfer
At the transshipment port the cargo is moved to the on-carrying vessel.
Onward to discharge
The second vessel carries the cargo to the port of discharge for collection.
Good to know
Questions about this service.
All questionsWill my cargo be transshipped?
That depends on the port pair and sailing. If cargo is transferred between vessels at an intermediate port, it is recorded in the Trans Shipment field of your B/L and shown on the tracking route.
How do I track my shipment?
Open the Tracking page and enter your bill of lading (B/L) number or one of your container numbers. Spaces, hyphens and capital letters do not matter. You can share or print the result.
My reference number is not found. What should I do?
Check the number against your bill of lading. Shipment records are added by the NovaGate team, so a very new booking may not be visible yet. If it still cannot be found, contact us with the number and we will look into it.
